Pina Colada Jello Shot FAQs

What do Pina Colada Jello Shots taste like?

These pina colada jello shots have all of the tropical flavors of a classic pina colada cocktail in a fun party shot for. They’re sweet, creamy, and packed with coconut and pineapple flavor. The coconut rum gives them a beachy tropical flavor that makes them perfect for Summer parties and vacations.

Where can I buy jello shot cups?

We have bought jello shot cups that are 2 and 3 oz. from Amazon, and we even find the 2 oz. jello shot cups used in this recipe, at our local Walmart!

Can I use coconut cream?

Coconut cream is not the same as cream of coconut by Coco Real. Coconut cream isn’t as sweet, and cream of coconut pours easier for cocktails, and jello shots. I don’t recommend substituting the cream of coconut, you won’t be disappointed!

What’s the best rum for these shots?

Coconut rum is one of the best choices for these shots, it adds extra tropical coconut flavor to the recipe. Malibu is a popular option, but you can also use white rum if you prefer a stronger pineapple flavor. For an even richer cocktail flavor, try combining coconut rum with a splash of dark rum.

Can you make jello shots ahead of time?

Yes! Jello shots are a great make-ahead party recipe. You can prepare them 2-3 days in advance and keep them covered in the refrigerator until serving time. This makes them perfect for parties, BBQs, beach trips, and Summer gatherings.

How to store jello shots

Store leftover pina colada jello shots covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Keep them chilled until ready to serve for the best texture and flavor. If you’re making them ahead for a party, wait to add whipped cream or garnishes until just before serving.

Fun Garnish Ideas

These tropical jello shots are even more fun with festive garnishes. Try topping them with whipped cream, toasted coconut, maraschino cherries, pineapple wedges, or cute cocktail umbrellas for a fun beach-inspired presentation. Garnishes help make these shots perfect for Summer parties and tropical themed gatherings.

Substitutions & Tips:

  • Don’t have Malibu rum on hand? You can swap for white rum or another brand of coconut rum. This shot has a lot of coconut flavor so a regular rum should still work just fine.
  • Plastic shot cups work best, I can be really difficult to enjoy jello shots out of a glass shot glass.
  • You could also garnish these with a small pineapple wedge.
